Hoera voor alle betrokkenheid op straatniveau!
Op 18 februari stond de Stadshart Top in het teken van betrokkenheid op straatniveau.
“Super leuke Top”, “perfect georganiseerd”, “kracht in zachtheid” – dat waren een aantal reacties na de Top van 18 februari, waar oude bekenden en nieuwe aanwas bijeenkwamen in een sfeer van grote betrokkenheid. Het grote animo voor deze ‘In mijn straatje Top’ oversteeg de capaciteit van het Marionetten Theater. Gelukkig konden twee gespreksgroepen uitwijken naar een gastvrije buurvrouw en de basisschool om de hoek.
Bewoners, buurtwerkers, ondernemers, lokale politici en andere belangstellenden leerden van elkaars ervaringen en vormden nieuwe dwarsverbanden. Voor elk van de zeven onderwerpen volgt hieronder een korte samenvatting van wat er is besproken, ontdekt en ontstaan.
Veiligheid
Bij het delen van ervaringen bleek dat de veiligheid verschillend wordt ervaren afhankelijk van locatie en leefritme. Vooral op de Wallen lopen veel dealers en mensen met psychische problemen/crackverslaving rond. Naast reflectie op het beleid van de gemeente, werd het belang benoemd van kennismaking met buren. Als er dan wat is, weet je elkaar te vinden.
Communicatie
Deze groep besprak zowel online als offline methoden. Ontmoetingen op straat werken goed evenals kleine App-groepen (niet groter dan 50 leden). In het Burgwallengebied wordt gedacht aan het opzetten van een Digitaal Buurtnetwerk. Dit bevindt zich nog in een pril stadium. Iemand vanuit de gemeente is hier ook bij betrokken, evenals een ondernemer op het vlak van IT.
Noodplan Nieuwmarktbuurt
Het meest waarschijnlijke crisisscenario is een langdurige stroomuitval (zie het informatieve filmpje van de NOS). Omdat hulpdiensten dan beperkt beschikbaar kunnen zijn, heeft een groep van circa 10 bewoners de Werkgroep Noodplan Nieuwmarktbuurt opgericht. Samen maken wij een buurtplan, met als doel dat niemand achterblijft.

Schoon en Groen
Aan deze tafel is geleerd van elkaar: wat gaat goed in mijn straatje, wat kan beter? Enkele mensen maakten afspraken om kennis uit te wisselen over communicatie via WhatsApp groepen. Anderen besloten in hun straatje actiever aan de slag te gaan met groen en de buren. Ook kreeg Wallen Schoon er een straat bij.

Zorgzame buurt
Een bewoner van de Jordaan-Noord vertelde hoe ze rond de Lindengracht burencontact succesvol hebben gestimuleerd. Naar aanleiding van een incident bedachten ze hoe belangrijk het is dat buren elkaar steunen. Er zijn briefjes rondgedeeld in de straat waarop een vraag of een aanbod voor steun ingevuld kan worden. Dat briefje gaat in een speciale brievenbus, waarna twee buurtbewoners zorgen voor een match tussen vraag en aanbod. Zou dit ook in de Nieuwmarktbuurt helpen om nieuwe verbindingen tussen buren te leggen?
Internationals in the Neighborhood
The number of involved internationals is growing! There’s a WhatsApp group to share initiatives and calls for volunteers/participants
There’s a lot of interest among internationals to know more about local businesses and local services. Considering the large international presence in the neighborhood, participants thought it would be good to see more English translations – especially in written media.
Hoe leer je je buren kennen?
Iedereen heeft een geheim wapen in handen om je buren beter te leren kennen: HALLO. Zeg hallo tegen iedereen die je in je straatje tegenkomt en laat je verrassen door wat daaruit voortkomt!
We deelden ervaringen en tips: deel de tomaatjes die in je (gevel)tuintje groeien, verzorg elkaars planten tijdens de vakantie, wees een straatambassadeur, organiseer een thee-tje op de stoep.
Deze ACTIEs kwamen eruit voort: een bewoner gaat een appgroep in de straat opzetten, een ander sluit zich aan bij de spullenruilgroep.

Hooray for all the involvement at street level!
On February 18th the Stadshart Top (Inner City Summit) explored involvement at street level.
“A fantastic summit,” “perfectly organized,” “strength in gentleness”— these were some of the reactions following the Stadshart Top on February 18th, where both regulars and newcomers gathered in an atmosphere of great engagement. There were so many participants that they exceeded the capacity of the Marionette Theatre. Luckily a hospitable neighbor and the primary school round the corner could accommodate the overflow.
In seven different discussion groups, residents, community workers, business owners, local politicians, and other interested parties learned from each other’s experiences and formed new connections.
Below is a brief summary of what was discussed, discovered, and developed for each of the seven topics.
Safety
We shared experiences and discovered that safety is perceived differently depending on location and lifestyle. The Red Light District in particular, is home to many drug dealers and people with mental health issues/crack addiction. We reflected a little on municipal policy, but also agreed on the importance of getting to know your neighbors when it comes to safety. That way, if something happens, you know who to reach out to.
Communication
This group discussed both online and offline forms of communication. Simply talking to each other in the street works well, as do small WhatsApp groups (no larger than 50 members). For the Burgwallen area, a representative from the municipality and an IT entrepreneur are currently creating a Digital Neighborhood Network, but this is still in its early stages.
Nieuwmarkt Neighborhood Emergency Plan
The most likely crisis scenario in the area of emergencies, is a prolonged power outage (as explained in this NOS informational video). Emergency services may be limited in such a situation. A group of around 10 residents has formed the Nieuwmarkt Neighborhood Emergency Plan Working Group to develop a neighborhood plan, aiming to ensure that no one is overlooked. In the Stadshart Top, residents discussed practical implications.

Clean and Green
In this group, we sat down to learn from each other: what’s going well in my street, what could be improved? A few of us resolved to be more actively involved with our neighbors and the development of green spaces in our streets. Others made plans to exchange knowledge about communication via WhatsApp groups. Wallen Schoon gained a new participating street.

Caring Neighborhood
A resident of Jordaan-Noord shared how they successfully encouraged neighborly contact around Lindengracht. A particular incident made them realize how important it is for neighbors to support each other. They distributed forms in the neighborhood inviting people to fill in either the specific help they were seeking or help they could give. The forms were collected in a special mailbox where two residents were matched according to supply and demand.

There’s a lot of interest among internationals to know more about local businesses and local services. Considering the large international presence in the neighborhood, participants thought it would be good to see more English translations – especially in written media.
Getting to know your neighbors
Everyone has the same secret weapon to get to know their neighbors: just say ‘hello!’ If you do that, you’ll be surprised at the results.
We exchanged experiences and tips: share the tomatoes growing in your (front) garden, care for each other’s plants during the holidays, be a street ambassador, organize a tea party on the sidewalk.
Several ACTIONS emerged from the conversation: one resident decided to start a WhatsApp group in their street, another joined the local swap-group.
