In de theaterzaal van de Boomsspijker zijn ca 45 actievelingen bijgepraat over vijftien initiatieven die dit jaar het verschil gaan maken in de buurt. Draag bij aan het succes! Lees hieronder hoe.
Bijeenkomst politie, gemeente en bewoners – 26 februari
Op 26 februari organiseert ons Politieteam Burgwallen een avond bij de Zuiderkerk (19.00 – 21.30) in samenwerking met de Stadshart Top en Bewonersorganisatie Wallenbuurt. Het doel is om bewoners, de politie en gemeente bij elkaar te brengen voor uitwisseling over het werk aan veiligheid in het Wallengebied en directe omgeving. Meld je aan via [email protected].
Contentplatform oude binnenstad
De Stichting Nieuwmarktbuurt lanceert in maart een nieuw contentplatform – Nieuwmarktbuurt.amsterdam – voor de oude binnenstad, bedoeld om te laten zien dat er zo veel meer zit in deze buurt. Lokale ondernemers, culturele instellingen en bewoners kunnen helpen hier een succes van te maken door het platform zo effectief mogelijk in te zetten.
Het Wallen Festival
In het weekend van 5/6 juli komt al het moois van deze buurt weer samen in het Wallen Festival. Leuke ondernemers, en bewoners met een talent of hobby kunnen vanaf 1 februari een activiteit aanmelden voor het programma. Tips voor sponsors (1.000 of 2.500) zijn ook heel welkom! Composteer mee bij de Ruijtergaard
De Ruijtergaard is aangesloten bij AfvalnaarOogst en nodigt betrokken buurtbewoners en bedrijven uit om hun groente- en fruitafval (GF) naar de gaard te brengen. Er is plek voor 50 tot 100 bewoners. Doe mee! Meld je aan via afvalnaaroogst.nl/deelnemen
Culturele Wallen
Culturele Wallen is een collectief van 8 culturele instellingen die samenwerken om het aanbod kunst en cultuur in de Amsterdamse oude binnenstad zichtbaarder te maken voor de Amsterdammer. Via een laddercampagne en website krijgen bewoners een beeld van de programmering. We verkennen graag samenwerking met culturele initiatieven en/of evenementen. Plannen van Stadsdeel Centrum
Vanaf eind februari kunnen er weer plannen worden ingediend bij Centrum Begroot! Ook wordt er gekeken naar een vervolg op het Leefbaarheidspanel Wallen en focusgesprekken als vervolg op vragen uit de Binnenstad-enquête. Vanuit de buurt is het behulpzaam als we veel meldingen blijven doen, ook als hier niet altijd adequaat op wordt gereageerd. De inzet van oa handhaving wordt namelijk hierop gebaseerd.
Adam Abidi, nieuwe gebiedsmakelaar
De Nieuwmarktbuurt heeft een nieuwe gebiedsmakelaar. Adam Abidi werkte twee jaar als gebiedsmakelaar rond de Zuidas en volgde in januari Marije Willems op. Hij is te bereiken via 06 1482 5165 en [email protected] .
Samenwerking gemeente en buurt
Veel actieve mensen in de buurt merken dat de samenwerkingsrelatie met het Stadsdeel goed is, maar met de rest van de gemeente tegenvalt. Daarom heeft Elena ingesproken bij de commissievergadering (na 45 min) en is een afspraak met wethouder Mbarki in de maak zodat hij kan helpen meer ‘doorzettingsmacht’ te organiseren.
Operatie Boomspiegel (groen doen)
Groen Stadshart zoekt groene doeners om boomspiegels te adopteren en vergroenen. Ook verdient ons ‘stadsbos’ van bomen op privégrond de aandacht, zodat deze goed verzorgd en niet gekapt worden. Meld je aan via GoedGeel.nl om bij de WhatsApp community aan te sluiten.
Buurt in Beeld avonden
Vanaf 21 april is er 6 weken lang de ‘Buurt in Beeld’ tentoonstelling in de Boomsspijker te zien. Oude en nieuwe foto’s van buurtplekken en persoonlijke verhalen van buurtgenoten vullen de huiskamer met een nostalgisch tintje. De meeste verhalen zijn verzameld tijdens een aantal avonden waarop buurtbeelden en herinneringen door verschillende bewoners werden gedeeld. Ook een buurtherinnering delen? Stadsgesprek Over-toerisme
Op 1 februari j.l. vond in de Waalse Kerk het Stadsgesprek over Over-toerisme plaats. Daaruit bleek behoefte aan serieuze actie om de overlast van het toerisme te beperken via gerichte, afrekenbare maatregelen. De idee werd geopperd om een Wethouder voor Toerisme aan te stellen. De partijprogramma’s voor de gemeenteraadsverkiezingen van voorjaar 2026 zullen serieuze aandacht aan over-toerisme moeten besteden. Blijf op de hoogte van het vervolg via het platform ‘Het Is Genoeg’.
Amsterdam Pledge
Bij een aantal hotels waaronder Hansje Brinker wordt een pilot uitgevoerd met 10.000 ansichtkaarten waarmee bezoekers hun positieve belofte aan Amsterdam op de post kunnen doen. De hotelgasten vinden dat erg leuk maar hebben wel even een laatste zetje nodig. Wie wil daarvoor af en toe bij de hotels langsgaan? We horen het graag via [email protected]
Red Light Jazz Radio
Elke woensdag van 17-19 zendt Red Light Jazz Radio live uit vanaf de Zeedijk 44. Luister via de app of 99.4 fm (Salto). Loop ook eens gezellig binnen tijdens de uitzending! Rondleidingen voor internationals
Het begon allemaal met het Taalcafe in de Boomsspijker… buurtgids Paul bood aan deze leuke groep mensen mee op pad te nemen voor een historische wandeling. Meer buurtbewoners werden enthousiast om dit ook eens te doen. Helemaal op hun manier. Van de leukste kroegjes in de buurt tot een groene wandeling. Volgende week zitten we met een groepje samen om een planning voor 2025 te maken. Zin om aan te sluiten of op de hoogte blijven? Stuur een mailtje naar Floortje.
De Goede Zaak
Een aantal ondernemers, bewoners en straatmanagers werken samen om De Goede Zaak nieuw leven in te blazen, en bijzondere winkels op een voetstuk te plaatsen. Help je mee om fijne ondernemingen in de oude binnenstad in het zonnetje te zetten? Deel je favoriete zaken met ons en vertel waarom. En/of heb je zin om bordjes van het keurmerk rond te brengen? Police, municipality and residents meeting – February 26
On February 26, the Burgwallen Police team in collaboration with Stadshart Top and Residents’ Organization Wallenbuurt is organizing an evening at the Zuiderkerk (7:00 PM – 9:30 PM). Residents, the police and the municipality will have an exchange about safety in the Red Light District and immediate surroundings. Residents can register via [email protected].
Content platform
In March, the Stichting Nieuwmarktbuurt is launching a new content platform – Nieuwmarktbuurt.amsterdam – for the old city center, to show that there is so much more to this neighborhood. Local entrepreneurs, cultural institutions and residents can help make this a success by using the platform as effectively as possible.
Wallen Festival
On the weekend of July 5/6, all the beauty of this neighborhood will come together once again in the Wallen Festival. Residents with a talent or hobby and entrepreneurs can register an activity for the program from February 1. Tips for sponsors (1,000 or 2,500) are also very welcome! Contribute to compost at the Ruijtergaard
De Ruijtergaard has joined AfvalnaarOogst and invites green-minded local residents and companies to bring their fruit and vegetable waste (GF) to the garden. Between 50 and 100 residents can be involved. Register via wastenaaroogst.nl/deelnemen
Culturele Wallen
Culturele Wallen is a collective of 8 cultural institutions that work together to make the range of art and culture in Amsterdam’s old city center more visible to Amsterdam residents. A ladder campaign and website give an impression of their programs. We are open to exploring collaboration with cultural initiatives and/or events. News from Stadsdeel Centrum
From the end of February, submit your plans to Centrum Begroot! In 2025, there may be a follow-up to the Leefbaarheidspanel Wallen and focus conversations based on resident replies from the City Center survey. It’s helpful if we continue to file many reports, even if they are not always responded to adequately. The municipality bases decisions like the use of enforcement on this information.
Adam Abidi, new gebiedsmakelaar
The Nieuwmarktbuurt has a new gebiedsmakelaar. Adam Abidi worked for two years as gebiedsmakelaar around the Zuidas and succeeded Marije Willems in January. He can be reached via 06 1482 5165 and [email protected].
Cooperation between municipality and neighborhood
Many active people in the neighborhood have good experiences collaborating with Stadsdeel Centrum, but the relationship with the rest of the municipality is disappointing. Elena spoke at the gemeente committee meeting (at 45 minutes) with the outcome that an appointment with councilor Mbarki is in the making. He expressed willingness to organise more action.
Operation Boomspiegel (act green!)
Groen Stadshart is looking for green doers to adopt and green the foot of trees. Our ‘city forest’ of trees on private land also deserves attention, so that they are well cared for and not cut down. Register via GoedGeel.nl to join the WhatsApp community.
Buurt in Beeld evenings
From April 21, the ‘Neighborhood in Focus’ exhibition will be on display at the Boomsspijker for six weeks. Old and new photos of local spots and personal stories from neighbors will fill the living room with a nostalgic touch. Most of the stories were gathered during several evenings where neighborhood images and memories were shared by different residents. Want to share your own neighborhood memory? City conversation Over-tourism
On February 1st the City conversation on Over-tourism took at the Waalse Kerk. Participants expressed the need for serious action to limit the nuisance caused by tourism through targeted, accountable measures. The idea was put forward to appoint an Alderman for Tourism. The party programmes for the municipal elections of spring 2026 will have to pay serious attention to over-tourism. Stay informed about the follow-up via the ‘Het is Genoeg’ (It’s Enough) platform.
Amsterdam Pledge
A pilot is being carried out at a number of hotels, including Hansje Brinker, in which 10,000 visitors can send postcards with their pledge to Amsterdam. The hotel guests really like the initiatieve, but they need a little nudge. Who would like to visit the hotels every now and then? We would love to hear from you via [email protected]

Guided tours for internationals
It all started with the Language Café at the Boomsspijker… neighborhood guide Paul offered to take this great group of people on a historical walk. More local residents became excited to do the same, each in their own way. From the coziest pubs in the area to a green walk. Next week, we’ll be gathering with a group to make a plan for 2025. De Goede Zaak
Enterprisers, residents and ‘streatmanagers’ living and working in the old town joined forces to revive De Goede Zaak (A Good Choice), an inititative that aims at highlighting the special shops and business in the old city centre.
