In het prachtige Theatrum Anatomicum van de Waag kwamen op 13 december zo’n 35 initiatiefrijke buurtbikkels bijeen.
In deze positieve, productieve Top zijn mooie stappen gezet voor oa kunst & cultuur, klimaat, een schone buurt en de betrokkenheid van internationals.
Naast de bekende gesprekken aan tafel was er deze keer ook de optie om de mouwen op te stropen voor een Cleanup, of in samenspel met AI een transformatie van de buitenruimte te ontwerpen.
Hier een samenvatting van wat is besproken, bedacht en gedaan:
Voor het Wallen Festival (22/23 juni 2024) is nagedacht over buurtgerichte programmering. De belangrijkste conclusie is om plekken en organisaties te betrekken waar bewoners al bij elkaar komen voor – al dan niet creatieve – activiteiten.
Internationals doen graag vrijwilligerswerk, als manier om zich te verbinden met de lokale samenleving. Er is geïnventariseerd bij welke organisaties in deze buurt zij aan de slag zouden kunnen. De Vrijwilligerscentrale gaat een tour organiseren.
Voor kunstRUIM is meegedacht over buurtgerichte programmering bij hun prachtige locatie op de hoek van de Jodenbreestraat / Valkenburgerstraat. Ideeën die hieruit kwamen zijn onder meer een filmvoorstelling, workshops (oa portrettekenen) en storytelling/buurtverhalen vertellen.
In co-creatie met het Klimaatmuseum is de basis gelegd voor een pilot waarbij buurtbewoners en lokale kunstenaars bijdragen aan een installatie rond het onderwerp Energiearmoede.
Aan de kennismakingstafel namen mensen plaats die voor het eerst bij de Top waren. Zij benoemden oa de goede, verwelkomende sfeer in de buurt.
Drie mensen gingen ondertussen de straat op voor een Cleanup en kwamen terug met een hele zware vuilniszak!
Gehost door Waag werd met AI gespeeld om te zien hoe Amsterdam eruit ziet als er meer dieren op straat zijn of de hele stad van origami is. Een verrassende vondst was om een weg over de daken van woonboten aan te leggen, zodat verkeer en wonen allebei ruimte hebben.
In deze Eindejaars Top vierden we bovendien de successen van 2023, waaronder deze:
De Belofte is een initiatief om toeristen een kaart te laten sturen waarmee zij beloven de beste kant van zichzelf aan Amsterdammers te laten zien. Tien grote hotels werken mee aan de pilot en er is subsidie om met 10.000 kaarten te beginnen.
Wallen Schoon zet goede stappen om de Warmoesstraat en omgeving schoon te krijgen en houden. Tot 2025 helpen bewoners en ondernemers de gemeente daarbij. Parallel daaraan is het de bedoeling dat de gemeente de vuilinzameling beter organiseert.
AMIR project traint nieuwkomers om hun eigen verhalen middels audiovisuele technieken over te brengen.
Clean Up Your City houdt een maandelijkse Cleanup in de buurt met een flinke groep deelnemers. En dat is pas het begin van deze beweging!

Looking back on Stadshart Top #23…
The beautiful Theatrum Anatomicum of the Waag formed the backdrop of around 35 active inner city people gathering on December 13th.
We had a productive meeting, in which significant strides were made in areas such as art and culture, climate, a clean neighborhood, and increasing the involvement of internationals.
In addition to the usual discussions at the table, there was the option to go out and do a cleanup, or collaborate with AI to design a transformation of public space.
Here is a summary of what was discussed, devised, and accomplished:
For the Wallen Festival (June 22/23, 2024), ideas were shared for neighborhood-focused programming. The main conclusion is to involve places and organisations where residents already gather for various creative or other activities.
Internationals are eager to volunteer as a way to connect with the local community. A list was made of organizations in this neighborhood where they might contribute. The Volunteer Center will be organising a tour.
kunstRUIM posed the question which neighborhood-focused programming they can provide at their beautiful location on the corner of Jodenbreestraat / Valkenburgerstraat. Ideas that emerged include a film screening, workshops (such as portrait drawing), and neighborhood storytelling.
In co-creation with Klimaatmuseum, thoughts arose for a pilot project where residents and local artists contribute to an installation on the subject of Energy Poverty.
At the introduction table, newcomers to the Top shared their experiences, pointing out the positive and welcoming atmosphere in the neighborhood.
Meanwhile, three individuals hit the streets for a cleanup and returned with a very heavy garbage bag!
Hosted by Waag, participants played with AI to see how Amsterdam would look with more animals on the streets or if the entire city were made of origami. A surprising outcome was the idea of constructing a road over the roofs of houseboats, giving space to both traffic and living.
In this final Stadshart Top of 2023 we also celebrated successful projects of the year, including:
De Belofte offers tourists a postcard inviting them to pledge to be nice to Amsterdam and its residents. Ten major hotels will be participating in the pilot and funding is in place for the first 10,000 cards.
Wallen Schoon is developing plans to clean up the Warmoesstraat and its surroundings once and for all. Residents and business owners will assist the municipality until 2025. In parallel, the municipality can work on better organising waste collection.
The AMIR project trains newcomers to tell their stories using audiovisual techniques.
Clean Up Your City organizes a monthly cleanup in the neighborhood with a sizable group of participants. And the movement has only just begun!
